Dear Friends,

Happy Holidays! Another year has passed, and with 2010 around the corner, TASC continues on in its mission to help those battling cancer with their financial hardships.

Not surprisingly, we faced tighter financial times than we would have hoped in 2009. This resulted in a difficult and unprecedented decision for TASC -- to freeze our beneficiary budget and cease accepting new applications for 6 months. TASC did not lie dormant during this time, however. As the saying goes, we took the lemons and made lemonade. We spent our energy adding new fundraising events to our calendar and broadening our pool of donors. This 6 month freeze led us to appreciate the success we have experienced over the years and the importance of our mission. TASC not only survived this time, but began awarding grants again in July. Thanks to your generosity, year to date, we have raised a net of more than $35,000.

Part of our success has been our Achilles heel. Our name recognition has grown as we have developed a network of contacts at Oncology Centers throughout New England. This expanded network means we reach social workers and families who know about the support TASC provides. This has translated into a significant increase in applications while our beneficiary budget has remained consistent. While we cannot give as much money to each applicant as we once did, our primary goal is to support every qualified applicant that we come across by providing some amount of financial assistance.

And, provide support we have! In four years we have given more than $140,000 to nearly 500 beneficiaries. Since our inception in 2001 TASC has given away $310,000 to worthy beneficiaries. This is a tremendous accomplishment for a tiny, all-volunteer organization and could not be done without your support.

You can be a part of this impact. There is a distinct satisfaction when giving to a small, grassroots organization such as TASC. A donation you make to TASC has a direct impact on the life of a person or family struggling to battle cancer. In giving to this year-end fundraiser you can feel reassured that every dollar you give goes to our bottom line, translating to more financial assistance to our families.
