TASC Year End Fundraiser

Dear Friends,

Happy Holidays! The Board of Directors would like to thank you all for your continued support of Take a Swing at Cancer, Inc. and wish you a Happy New Year. In 2011, we celebrate ten years as a fully independent 501(c)3, non-profit organization.

2011 proved to be another challenging year for TASC. As usual, the need for assistance continues to increase while a difficult economy limits our ability to meet that need. Once again, we were forced to suspend grants after exceeding our budget. This year we distributed nearly $27,000 to 178 individuals and families. While we remain proud of our accomplishments, we long to be able to help each and every person in need of our help.

Throughout the years TASC has become an increasingly recognizable name in the non-profit community. As a result, we have developed a network of contacts at Oncology Centers throughout New England. This expanded network means a larger number of applications each year. While we cannot give as much money to each applicant as we once did, our primary goal is to support every qualified applicant by providing some amount of financial assistance. However, during our grant suspension, applications have continued to arrive, leaving us with several families we have yet to help.

Since our inception in 2001 TASC has given away more than $372,000 to worthy beneficiaries. This is a tremendous accomplishment for a tiny, all-volunteer organization and could not be done without your support. Many of you may not know that TASC’s Board of Directors is comprised of only eight dedicated individuals with very busy lives of their own. During the past decade, we have celebrated three marriages and the births of seven children. Due to increasing priorities and obligations in their personal lives, our Board Members have, understandably, been unable to give as much time to TASC as in previous years. As a result, we have had to seriously consider the future of TASC… but have committed to continuing on, one year at a time.

TASC is a very meaningful part of all of us. However, we recognize that in order to move forward, we need your help. Even a small amount of participation can make a big difference. As in years past, we are again seeking whatever financial assistance you are able to offer, but we are also asking for your time. In this season of giving we are hoping you can make a contribution to TASC. We recognize that charitable donations are a personal decision and appreciate any amount you are able to give. As an all-volunteer organization, we are able to keep our overhead costs low in order to provide more funding directly to those in need. Most of us have known someone diagnosed with Cancer.
